RYT200 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What type of yoga do you teach in your training?
Yoga Legacy is a classical yoga school. We study different types and styles of yoga and the principles behind them. Our training is diverse so that we don’t lock the future yoga teacher into one style. It is our intention for the student to gravitate towards the particular style that best suits them; however, we want them to have the ability to teach in many different settings.

Do you require the purchase of additional material or books?
All manuals are provided for the Core Program. No additional books are required. Some books will be suggested for the electives.

Are there any other costs involved?
No, you pay the one fee and that is all. Yoga Legacy does not require you to attend additional classes or workshops with us or work for us for free. All of our fees are up front, so that you know exactly what the full, true cost of your training is. We do require you to attend Yoga classes of your choice during training and submit feedback on these classes.

What if I sign up for the full program and find out I have a conflict and cannot attend training?
Let us know BEFORE your training begins and there is no fee to transfer. If you need to switch after training begins, be sure to give us plenty of notice and you will only need to pay a $25.00 transfer fee to reschedule. Please check our website for last minute cancellation or switching fees. In the event of an emergency, hospitalization or doctor recommendation, all fees will be waived on a case-by-case basis. You also have the option for a Personalized Training Program to complete your required credits. This may be a combination of private lessons, classes and one-on-one with a Master Trainer. No shows to a training Module with no contact during first day of training weekend will be required to re-enroll in the Module for full module price, no exceptions.

What if I ask for a Split Program (2 or more locations) with a prepaid bundle price?
You will have the opportunity to make up the missing Module(s) the next time it runs; however, Yoga Legacy cannot guarantee a Program or Module will run, this is based on each Program meeting minimum registration requirements. Yoga Legacy can only guarantee that you will be able to make up the missing Module the next time it runs.

What are the requirements for me to take Yoga Teacher Training?
We prefer that you have some yoga experience and have been attending classes.

Do you have an application? I only see the registration form.
If you want to learn – we will teach you. There are no requirements other than the sincere desire to learn to teach yoga.

Is this training for teachers only?
No. This is an excellent way of immersing yourself in yoga and a healthy way of life.

Can I register with Yoga Alliance after completing your program?
Yes, you may register with Yoga Alliance once you’ve completed the 245 hour Teacher Training Program and have a passing grade. Because Yoga Legacy is a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with the Yoga Alliance, our students only need to provide their certificate to Yoga Alliance, along with their application and fee, to register.  Go to www.yogaalliance.org for more information about registration.

There are 180 hours for each program, how do I get the full 220 hours?
The 180 hours are contact (classroom) hours, time you spend with Yoga Legacy working toward your certification. The additional 40 hours are hours spent outside of the classroom training. These hours will be spent on research, writing papers, attending classes and reading. Trainee has 6 months after completing their last Module in the 200 Hour Program to submit their non-contact hours to receive their 200 Hour Certificate of Completion. After the 6 month deadline, the trainee will instead receive a Certificate of Training for the contact hours attended in the 200 Hour Program.

What is the difference between taking the program as an intensive or one module at a time?
As an intensive, you will complete the entire program in a set amount of time and be able to register with Yoga Alliance after you are done. We realize that for some individuals this is not feasible due to various reasons. Therefore, we offer the program in modules, so that students who cannot attend an intensive can complete their certification at their own pace over a longer period of time. After they have completed the 10 modules of the core program with a passing grade, they will be able to register with Yoga Alliance.

Do you offer individualized training programs?
Yes. If you request an individualized program when you first register or before your training actually starts, we can work with you to develop a program to accommodate your needs. If you request an individualized program after you start your training, we require an additional fee of $250.00.

Do you recognize any other programs as part of your program for certification?
Yes, however, you must take a majority of the program with Yoga Legacy to gain your 220 hour certification from Yoga Legacy. You would need to take Module 1 and then take the other modules necessary to complete your certification. You would be required to complete certain modules as Home Study. This option is available on a case-by-case basis and you must contact our office (919-665-1514) to apply.

After certification, do you suggest your students register with Yoga Alliance or is this even necessary?
Yes, we strongly recommend registering with Yoga Alliance as this organization is the worldwide recognized registration body for Yoga Teachers. Keeping a current registration with Yoga Alliance shows that you are a teacher who continually strives to keep up-to-date with continuing education throughout your career.

Do I need insurance once I start teaching?
Yes, Yoga Legacy strongly recommends that teachers obtain and maintain their insurance throughout their teaching career.

Will I need other certifications to teach?
Yes, you will need a CPR certification to teach at most locations and Yoga Legacy strongly recommends this necessary training.

Does Yoga Legacy offer continuing education?
Yes, Yoga Legacy offers continuing education courses as Specialty Modules. Specialty Modules are 9-21 hours each and you can take any that are of interest to you for your continuing education units (CEUs). You are always able to repeat any part of the core program for CEUs, if you so desire.

Does Yoga Legacy offer payment plans?
Yes, Yoga Legacy offers a payment plan for all our intensive programs. This plan allows the student to split the payment in half. The first half is due 30 days prior to the start of the first class. The second payment is due 30 days prior to the start of session 6 of the program. Special arrangements can be made for other plans on a case-by-case basis. These plans will have additional charges.

How do trainees send in payments?
Currently, Yoga Legacy accepts payments three ways:
1. Online through our website (PayPal).
2. By phone. We can process credit card payments.
3. By check mailed to our office. Please see our Contact page or call 919-665-1514 for our mailing address.

What is the latest I can register for a program?
You may register for a program 24 hours before the start of the program, provided there is space available. Once the maximum number of students for any program is reached, the program is closed until the next session.  Late registration fees would apply.

Does completing the program guarantee graduation?
No; the staff of Yoga Legacy Teacher Training reserve the right to refuse to graduate any individual that they, in their sole discretion, determine does not meet the requirements of graduation and/or has not completed their non-contact hours. Yoga Legacy will provide a Certificate of Training for contact hours attended above 160 hours. Non-graduation after completion of the program will not result in a refund of any kind.
